Marni Soupcoff’s column is an affront to all the victims of the H1H1 virus. If the H1N1 virus was less lethal than the seasonal influenza virus, it was only because it cruelly favoured the young over the elderly. I have been working in intensive care units for 26 years and have never seen a young fatality from the seasonal flu. However, I had the misfortune of being involved in the care of two individuals under the age of 30 who died from H1N1. Countless lives were saved by the mass vaccination programs in Canada.
I applaud WHO and public health departments across the country.
