The surveillance system of the deaths describes the epidemiology of the mortality for influenza A/H1N1v virus, also in terms of possible risk factors and for changes in the pattern during the course of the epidemic

* last week (22-28 February 2010) no deaths due to influenza A/H1N1v have been reported. In total, since the beginning of the epidemic, 235 deaths have been recorded. Of these, 42% were women

* the age groups most affected: individuals between 15 and 44 years (33% of deaths) and between 45 and 64 years (33%)

* the region most affected is Campania with 22% of all deaths. The other regions are: Puglia with 15%, the Piedmont with 10%, the Sicily with 9%, Calabria and Lazio, with 6% of deaths each. Two regions (Valle d’Aosta and Sardinia) have not reported any deaths.

* 81% of deaths occurred in people who had at least one risk condition.
